I have a 1998 Audi A4 6 CL 2.8 Litre. Recently, I got a new battery because my engine would click and appears that there are no charge. Took it in to a local shop and they said I needed a new battery. Got it as said. But then, yesterday, my car would not start. Making clicking noise as if the charge would go through but doesn't. Called my mechanic and he said its an alternator issue.
He's charging 600 bucks to replace the alternator, which, I think is a bit overpriced. I've decided that I'm going to do it myself. So went to Kragen and purchased an alternator. However, the alternator does not come with a pulley. Is it hard to remove the pulley from the old alternator and use it on the new alternator? What tools would I need?
In addition, is it necessary to change the belt as well?
