Belt tensioner

Hi, doing the timing belt and am a little confused with the belt tentioner. I have had to replace the bolt with a std hex head bolt. But when I tighten the bolt to the new belt mark and then run the belt around a couple of times until the marks line up again. the belt tension mark has moved to eh g tighter? Could some one please explain this and how to stop if need to? Please and thank you.

Hello and welcome to 2CarPros. If I'm correct you are seeing the pointer move to a tighter position? Or is the bolt letting the tab used to adjust the tension moving? If it is the first one and it's moving just a bit into the tighter position it should be fine as the belt is going to stretch and wear which will lower the tension anyway. I would rotate the engine over a few times and see if it tightens farther or if it stops after the first couple turns. If it keeps getting tighter then the tensioner is faulty. If it stays in the one spot you could try backing it off the same amount it tightens to and see if it now goes to the "correct" position.

eh g tighter? What it sounds like your asking is if when you turn the engine over 2 times around after you have locked down the tensioner, the indicator is at the "old" mark? here is a link to a pdf file that explains the procedure in detail. Hope this helps! www.partinfo.co.uk/files/TB01.pdf
