Discovered antifreeze was leaking above my starter is this common problem? it has never overheated but tired of replacing antifreeze.

Without seeing the car in person the leak can be coming from different places around the starter. What we suggest to people is perform a cooling system pressure test. You can perform this with the engine cold and turned off. It is basically a pump that pressurizes the cooling system and you can then look around the engine to see where the leak is coming from.
