I want to know if I can replace an alternator myself without taking the wheel off or belts apart. And if I do need to loosen a belt, which one?

Yes you can replace it yourself without taking a wheel off, however you do need to remove the drive belt for it as well as drain the coolant so you can remove the upper radiator hose and disconnect the wiring to the throttle to get room for it to come off the mount and out.

Before you replace it may I ask what the reason is and how you know it is the problem? Many electrical system issues are blamed on the alternator when it isn't at fault.
