My repair shop [ Dealership] did a general inspection of the car and advised me that the oil pan gasket was leaking and should be replaced. I responded that I have never seen any oil spots under the car. He said the reason for no oil spots was that it only leaked when the car is being driven. I gave him the go ahead to make the repair. Having started the repair I get a phone call;Sir Now we have found that the timing chain cover gasket is also leaking and it wil likely become a problem leak because of the added pressure caused by having the oil pancover gasket replaced.I was also told that this is expected general maintance for a Infinite with 100,000 miles, and the gasket material gives out. Now I'm in for another $1700.00.Having though about this for a few hours, I have come to the the conclusion that I was mislead. What are your thoughs on this matter?

we must have worked on 1000 nissan and infiniti combined ...never seen, heard or smell of this matter....if not call up the oldest 2 nissan dealer in houston and chk our credential...we fix car that they don't wanna touch or screwed up...this is very obvious...J30 has a motor similar to 300ZX...timing cvr is only about 6 to 8 hours..probably under $500 ...mostly labor...done tons of em' ..probably a real 4 - 5 hrs job...i think this is what happen..they saw oil around the oil pan and they are too lazy to clean it up and run dyes in the system to figure out where it is leaking..so they jump the gun ..hit u for an oil pan job...but now they figure out the oil is leaking from the timing cvr down to the pan..so they call u up for this mumble jumbo
good luck
msg me if u need some more help
