4x4 not engaging

Hello I have a 1996 4x4 /5.7 ltr /1500 pickup with 172000 miles on it. This winter I went to engade 4x4 and the light and tranmission did did not work. It did work in the summer, just all of a sudden not working. Do You guys have any thoughts .Thank you Steve

any other specific info on what exactly did or did not happen?tough to say why something doesn't work without details. if 4wd light doesn't come on and it isn't engaging you may have an electrical prob, a 4wd unit issue, or both. it stands to reason that the indicator light probably didn't fail because of a mechanical prob. in the trans.but the trans didn't fail because of a light bulb.may be a linkage problem which would not allow 4wd to engage or let indicator light come on. i would check the linkage first. :mrgreen:
