i spun a bearing but ive been told i can change them without taking the motor out . which leaves me to believe that this is common . how can i tell if the crank is damaged and if there is still some bearing protecting the rod and crank would it be ok . ive changed them but their not the right size. so ima change them again. i guess what im asking is since the bearing material is so much softer thatn the rod and crank . it shopuld be ok right? the bearing was squished but it was still separating the rod from the crank. please respond asap thanks ........4 runner

Dirt is the major enemy on engine rebuilding. you can use a plastigage to read the clearance and then decide to go undersize bearings. No funds -like back in the old days we'll use leather instead of bearings for quick fix for DIY's.

You need to investigate why those bearings when bye-bye. might be a bent crank, taper or out of round. Best fix is to get a crank kit.
