I have a 8.1 L '04 engine on a Workhorse chasis with duel exhausts. I have black soot coating the inside of one tail pipe. And it sounds like I have a tick in the engine when I am at idle. Everything else seems fine. So what is the problem.

sounds like one of your cylinder sets are running rich, can you perform a compression test on the cylinders with the black soot and compare them with the normal side?
