Possible flood damage

MG ROVER ZR driven through a few inches of flood and now the engine light is flashing and the car s coughing and spluttering. Does this sound like there is damage or does the car just need drying out?

How long does drying out take?

Have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer there may be damage to the catalytic convertor !!
