2001 Grand Am slams into gear..

I have a 2001 Grand Am GT that just slams into gear. It has about 100,000 mi on it. It started out losing power occasionaly. Like on the highway the engine would sputter every once in a while for about a week. Then, I started the car and when I shifted into drive it just slams into gear, while driving it will continue to slam through gears. No grinding or anything just wham! Reverse seems fine, only the foreward gears.

Also, when the engine is cold ( first start of the day), the transaxle will shift like normal, but only the first couple of shifts....

Also, no, I haven't been driving it since this has started.

i have an 01 Grand Prix that kinda does the same thing. For the first start, it shifts fine. Beautiful even. But I believe once the tranny gets hot, the "slamming" starts.
Have you checked your tranny fluid? What does it smell like? Look like? When was it last changed?

Looks pretty dark... Dosen't smell burned up... Not sure when it was changed last.... only owned it a year, but suposedly just before we bought it ( according to the dealer, of course )

Yeah when I bought mine in July they said they had done it recently too...but with the hard shifting i decided to do it again-no harm really, could only do good right? it doesnt cost that much to buy the fluid and a filter, and its super easy to do at home. I would try doing that before trusting the dealer to do anything! If you need intructions on how to do it, let me know, I'd be glad to help.
