I'm pretty sure my A/C works but my fan speeds are extremely slowed. I am hesitant to take it to a repair shop because: I am an avid "DIY"er and they charge an arm and a leg for labor. What are some possible problems and how do I go about finding the problem?

did you try some diff. setting like defrost, panel, or floor...it seems like one of these setting should blow stronger than the other... meaning that your heater/ac panel might not be working the way it should or the gate that switches the movement of air might not be working right...

I tried in the different positions and it all feals the same. how do i check the gate thingy cuz i had the AC on the panel setting and my wife felt it blowing on her feet still (passenger floor) but there was nothing on the drivers floor vent. I was reading online and was thinking about changing out the blower motor resister to see if anything changes but the problems caused by that are loosing fan speeds. Like only having High and Low speeds instead of 4 diff. speeds. I don't know....

you said it feels the same but does it sound the same, can you hear a diff. in fan speeds?
your best bet would be go get a HAYNES manual for that truck and that will show the process of getting to the gate and what not...

good luck....jess s

???? in your book check chapter that has cooling and heating systems... should tell you how to remove fan motor, heater core, and hopefully you'll bump into some info on the gate...
i got some manauls on older dakotas, and for my 98 ram.. so i'll have take look at them( if i can find them) after cartoons  ... so to see if i can make heads or tales of the project to come..

so i replaced the blower motor resistor today and the fan has sped up considerably, however i now have the problem you spoke of earlier where the selector switch doesn't work. at least i think that's the problem. I have no change between defrost, vent, floor, etc. every setting blows everywhere... not sure if it's the consol control or a problem with the gate.. not even sure of a method of troubleshooting to find the source. My haynes manual seems to be lacking a little in the troubshooting section. Also looking into the heating and cooling section i was unable to find anything on the gate, it only has removal/installation of the blower motor and heater core. if there is any sort of help you can provide i would be very grateful. the only troubleshooting i can comeup with is to replace the console switch, or to start tearing down my dashboard (which i really don't want to do)

i hate to sound like a complete car noob but how do I check the consol control? just use a mutlimeter and check for continuity in the switch? or check for voltage/current in the wires? it's late and not much sleep lately.
