My check engine light went on yesterday and the car started to run really rough and have no acceleration. I drove it home (about 30 miles), and by the time i got home it was running fine and but the check engine light was still on. I got the code and it said it was "missing", so i replaced the spark plug wires and plugs. After replacing them, the car still ran a little rough, so i took it out for a little drive, and it ran REALLY rough with little acceleration, and when i came back, the exhaust manifold had gotten so hot that it melted the plastic under my car. I am wondering if maybe i put the wires back on in the wrong order or what? All four plugs are right in front and where the wires go to is in the shape of an L, so if that makes it any easier to explain how they should be on there.

Sounds more like the catalytic converter is plugged, which should be under warranty. 8years/80,000 miles.

When i talk to anyone from Hyundai about warranties on my car, they always say that since i am not the original owner, warranties do not apply. I did have the wires on backwards also.

Original owner or not, the converter is covered by federal law.

So are you having a problem still? Or is it running okay?
