Hello. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

As mentioned, the vehicle is a 1996 Aerostar, 4.0L 4R55E Transmission.

I Autotapped it just now and here are the trouble codes-
P0707- Transmission range sensor circuit low (there were several of these)
P0401- EGR flow insufficient detected
P0402- EGR flow excessive detected
P1701- Reverse engagement error

I will copy/paste a description of what's going on from another forum where I've been discussing this.

[quote:c093921bbe]This vehicle belongs to a friend. She doesn't have a bunch of money to spend buying parts, or to put a rebuilt tranny in it. That said...

1996 Aerostar 4.0L RWD
136,000 miles

What it's doing is "hunting" at the shift points. Once it goes into gear, it's fine. No slippage at all.

I suggested a new filter since it had never been done and the fluid smelled slightly burnt. Today I replaced the filter and it is better, but still not right. Before today it would shift real hard when going into gear, that harshness is gone, but it's still hunting. Also, there was very little metal on the magnet when I removed the pan- I would say it was an inordinately small amount of metal for the mileage on the vehicle.[/quote:c093921bbe]
One of the guys wasn't sure what I meant by "hunting", so I also posted this-
[quote:c093921bbe]By "hunting" I mean it's not going directly into the next gear. It kinda goes in and out. If you give it more, or less, gas it will then go into gear. But, with the RPM's at the point where it should shift, it "hunts" for the gear- whether it be the next higher, or lower, gear.

Does that make sense?[/quote:c093921bbe]

Oh, I guess I should actually ask my question... :?

Based on the TC's, what part do you think is failing? I'm not overly familiar with electronically controlled Ford transmissions.
