Hello - I have a 95 SC2 with 133,000 miles, 4 spd auto tranny.

About a month ago, I started having transmission problems. The reverse gear works OK the car is cold, but when warmed up it will only go backwards when it is revved very high in reverse (about 6000 rpm) and then it only backs very slowly.

Also, the Service Engine Soon light comes on when it first shifts from 1st to 2nd and stays on, and often from 1st to 2nd it is a hard shift. Other than that, no problems with all 4 forward gears..

I read online that this was likely the Transmission Valve Body, so I bought a used one on-line and installed it but I still have the same problem.

What else could be causing these problems, or did I just get another bad Valve Body?

Thanks! Harry, Appleton WI

Best bet is to buy a code reader. If not autozone may do it for free. The is a diagnostic connector under the dash.

We have fixed a few with a new valve body, have the codes checked to be sure.

I had a mechanic read the code, I forgot what he said, but it something like a first to second gear shifting problem.....in which I already knew that....could the valve body affect some gears and not others?

Absolutely. Uses electric solenoids to shift
