Tank Selector Valve

I have a 95 F-150 that wont switch between the two tanks. When you try to switch tanks it kills the motor. It has a bunch of miles on it, and has an in line 6 cyl motor. There appear to be options for what the truck might have by way of a selector valve. Any suggestions for diagnosing and repairing?

I have the 94 with same engine and dual tanks. The switch is on the dash right? Check the switch with an ohm meter. I would also not fully blame the valve right off. For instance, each tank has a pump and each tank has a fuel filter. Don't forget that when you start looking. The valve could be and sounds like it is opening but the fuel doesn't flow from that tank. The filter could be plugged or the pump could have failed.

THanks Bruce...spoke with a guy at Ford that said that truck doesnt have a real switch between the tanks, so it has to be the fuel pump in the front tank. The dash switch is working like it should, but the pump in the tank isnt kicking in. Does that sound right to you? Reason I ask is that the fuel pump is about $250 retail..rather not buy that if not necessary...
