1992 MX-3 - flickering lights

The dash lights and headlights llightly flicker most of the time when they are on. When the headlights are off and I press the brake, the dash lights flicker on. What could cause this? bad battery or alternator?

one of the first things I would check is: take both of your tail-lights out and check all of the light sockets...these cars were known for roten tailight sockets that would cause alot of electrical problems...also the front marker lights may be rotten'
