1991 civic si door ajar stays on drains battery help me

The door light stays on and drains the battery. I found it to be the passanger side. I pulled the door pannel and the only wires I see go to the seat belts. I don't see anything else that would be for the door ajar light. anyone know what I should do?

The door ajar switch is not on the door itself it is on the door jam. Look next to the shiny chrome u bracket on the door jam it should be black and u will be able to move it back and fourth. check the swich it is probably bad or u can just unscrew it and disconnect the wire but it u disconnect it the light may still stay on but ur mostly likely cause of this problem is the switch.

Older car and the switch could be bad but the door could also not be closing all the way. Try to push hard on the outside to see if this turns the light off. If it does, adjust the latch on the jam to enable the door to close tighter.

After all my tearing apart looking for wires it ended up being what you said. All I had to do was moved the chrome u-bracket towards the out side of the car and done. THANKS.

Update. Moving the U-Bracket ended up being a temp fix. So I changed the door jam switch and that didn't work. So the search resumes. When I tested for the short it sounds as if it is in the door latch area of the door. Is there even a wire that runs to the door latch?

runtich is right or just do the easy thing and remove the dome light (the bulb)!
