I'm not positive, but the Thing may still have a generator/regulator.

On the engine, the only belt you see connects the crank to the generator/alternator. Loosen the bolt on the gen pully, be careful not to lose the shims in the pully ass'y (this is how you set the tension) and then there are about 4 bolts holding the gen to the doghouse, plus the bolts holding the gen to the generator stand. Plus the wires- note color and location.

If you are replacing a generator (vs. an alternator) consider also replacing the voltage regulator- and be careful to follow the instructions so you don't toast the regulator at first spin up.

The top pulley is a two piece affair separated by shims to make the belt more or less tight.

Count the shims when you take 'em out and put them back in... fewer shims = tighter, less shims = looser.

Best of luck.

there should be a strap holding the gen to the stand.
also, besides the 4 bolts you can see while looking at it, there a big one on the other end from your pulley,
that holds the fan on....
much easier to pull the motor, and then change the gen...
always replace the voltage regulator when you replace the gen.
this is a type1 engine right?
