1959 Questions for all other cars V8 Four Wheel Drive Manual na miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a Willys wagon with rebuilt 360 amc motor, and a new properly sized aluminum radiator. In hot weather the motor does get hot, around 200-210 with 195 stat. But the problem is the fluid ends up expanding out the overflow tube until only half remains and then the motor over heats. The cap is new. Do I maybe have a air bubble in the system?

1959? is this right? What year engine is it? 59's had larger radiators, did not pressurize the system at 16psi
I think it was more like 4 psi. Check that the thermostat is installed with the copper spring to the block. Don't know if I would use a 195 in a 59....165-180 maybe...

thanks for response. It is a '55 but your year options didn't go that low. It's an AMC 360 V8 motor and they run 195 stats. common for 200/210 operating temps. The cap pressure is 13 psi I believe, whatever the aluminum radiator maker recommended anyway. I did check the new thermostat for proper direction flow and it's good. what about air in the system?

When you filled it, was it full at hot engine? Tstat opened? If air is a concern, fill and squeeze the upper radiator hose a few times, this should dislodge air bubles.
