Airbag light

My airbag light stays on, no flashing or chimes, fuse is good. Took it to two shops, neither scanner could communicate with module. Suggested that I take it to dealership, possible faulty module. Any ideas?

Hey 15thPanzer,

If you are 100% that the fuse is good and you have power in and out, you need to be sure of this first.

Fuses 22 and 26 in the under dash fuse box are for the airbag control. Both 10 amp.

I would suggest after you are happy the fuses are good that you need to check the power and ground at the restraints control module. The control unit is underneath the center console.

You have to be very careful when testing the restraints system, you need to power down the system and you cannot unplug/plug the module without having it bolted down first.

You will need to do this before replacing the module.

Do you have access to a multi-meter?

both fuses should be powered (have 12 volts both sides) with the ignition on.

I checked both fuses and found.crud on the blades. I put in two new 10a ones and after startup the light started flashing a 34 trouble code along with the chimes. After calling the two shops I took it to originally, they said they might have to subcontract it to the dealership anyway. So, I have at it my local Ford dealer right now. Hopefully this breakthrough will enable them to diagnose and fix it easier. I'm not really comfortable with going any further on a squrrelly airbag system. I might start doing more damage than good and I feel better with this current progress. Thanks for your help in getting this going in the right direction. This is better than having no clues at all before.

Hey 15thPanzer,

A wise choice, if you are not comfortable working on the airbag system it is better not to.

You can end up deploying the airbags and end up with an expensive mess, better this is on the dealers hands and not yours.

So you did not have this flashing trouble code before?

From what i can see if it is flashing 3-4 then there is an open in the passenger side seat belt pretension-er.

Hopefully it is something fairly straight forward and minor now you seem to have communication from the module.

Please keep us updated on what happens with this repair.
