Had A/C charge last year with dye. Lasted a year (cannot find any leaks?) and now have the same problem. Also, when I turn on the A/C I hear a loud thump under the glove box. (Heard that the last time as well) All I get is warm air.
Thinking I just need a charge like the last time, I went to Auto Zone to buy R134. Auto Zone told me I had air in my A/C system. He then told me to hold down the valve inside the low port to release it. He actually did that for a few seconds to show me how to do it. It sounded like he was letting air out of a tire. I am reading that it should be vacuumed and have gauges? I am now doubting his advice.

never believe the people at an auto parts store. most do not work on cars so they do not know anything nor had any training. to be properly fixed it needs to leak checked with an electronic leak tester then leak fixed where ever it is then evacuated to get water out because condensation builds up. then recharged. so go to your friendly garage and get it fixed correctly. dye checking is not really that good.

Thank you. I did bring the car to the mechanic this morning. Went with my gut instinct.

Due to the guy at Auto Zone playing around with my AC and not knowing what he was doing, I decided to have the system evacuated and recharged by a professional. Mechanic advised to never let them touch my AC, they are not licensed to do so. Also, I needed a low pressure switch.

well he is right, it was probably leaking there all along. auto parts people don't know how to fix cars they just guess as they do not do that for a living mechanics do.
