Poor mileage

When they clear the codes for the sensor it will take time for the adaption to be relearned to optimize the system. When they replaced the sensor did they use a OEM part? It matters. Also lets run the codes to see if anything comes up here is a guide to help us get started.

Hi and thanks for your response! yes, OEM for sure because it was the dealership and in warranty. the car has been problematic in many ways since i have owned it though. i was not getting a code on the last repair, but it was a major and dangerous failure at 80 mph on the highway. i do realize it takes time for the car/computer to relearn etc., after a new sensor. but i noticed a slightly worse mpg and slight whirring or low almost exhaust noise on my last highway trip. it's happening from 20 mph+ from what i can hear. not quite sure of the exact location, right rear? i have dual exhausts btw. so if that is a culprit, maybe just the one? or maybe a bearing? it happens acceleration or not. which leads me to my next posted question. can i still check things out with an obd2 reader even without codes as far as if anything is amiss?

Things can be off a little and not set a trouble code, The noise is a concern. Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can hear the noise? that would be great. You can upload it here with your response. It could be a defective sensor since it happened immediately after the sensor replacement.

i wondered that as well. i only noticed the noise maybe two weeks after the replacement. i will try and grab a video of it. it is so muffled though it is a bit hard to make out. i only really noticed it because i am so familiar with how my car has always sounded. oddly, sounds like a flat tire moving really fast if i had to compare it to something or like a tightened camstrap vibrating with the wind.

Hi again. i tried to get a video, but it wont faint to pick up the sound. i am going to get an obd2 scanner and see if anything comes up. will be taking it back to the dealership next week for the millionth time.

Maybe the sound is a bearing going out which will affect the mileage. is the noise coming from the front or rear of the car? Here is a guide that will walk you through the scan:

Actually i managed to capture the sound. it becomes more audible in the video when i take my foot off the gas and slow down a bit towards them end. if you use headphones or good speakers you should be able to hear it. thanks for your continued help.

Good job on the video, for sure it sounds like a bearing is going out or you have the roughest tire tread ever. Can you tell if the noise is front or back? Also, did the noise start immediately after you got the car back from the dealer?

Thanks. i only noticed it last week, roughly two weeks after picking the car up. and i believe it is coming from the right rear, but sometimes it's hard to tell. the tires are A/T but not an aggressive tread just fyi. and yes, the noise could be compared to a tread noise also if i needed to compare it to something. sometimes i also feel like its coming from the exhaust system or engine, but maybe i am over thinking it.

Have someone sit in the rear seat to help to determine front or rear on the noise. Then lets jack up that side and spin the wheels to check for play top to bottom. Here are guides that can help:
