Air conditioner stop working

Thanks for the information. Okay, I put some Freon and it was at 50 at the auto parts and drove to my job about five minutes away and now it is at 40 and still not that cold. Sorry at first when putting Freon it was showing 35 and when the compressor kicked in again it went to the red. So I had to let some out.

Modern systems are very sensitive to R134A levels. That system takes 36 ounces for a full charge. From the initial description it sounds like it could be icing up however that can occur if the system is not cycling properly as well as if it was low on charge. Your system should cycle the compressor when the evaporator core is around 43 degrees. If the sensor is failing or the air over the core is not correct it can ice over.

However, you also mention that you drove for five minutes and it is not cold. It could easily take that long for a properly working system to cool down all the duct work and the housing to even start getting cold.
I would suggest having the system discharged and recharged to the correct level. That would eliminate that as a variable and let you start testing to see if there is actually something wrong.
