We took our car to the dealership because while my wife was driving, the car gave her the "Safely Stop and Do Not Drive" warning. The next day, I drove the car with no problem as we took it to our local dealer. I received an itemized statement showing that the AHB ECU needed to be replaced. My question is, is this the standard ECU located under the hood? They are wanting to charge $3,343.61 for replacement. However, I see a refurbished ECU online that I can purchase for $599 with a 1 year warranty that will be plug and play as long as I provide my VIN number when ordering. Online, I see video's of replacing the ECU which is a very simple process. I just want to make sure what they list as the AHB ECU is just the ECU. Thanks.

Hello,

In short. No, the AHB-ECU is not the same as the engine's ECU. The AHB-ECU is for the active hydraulic booster. essentially the brains for your brake system to function properly.

Did the dealer itemize why they found it faulty or any explanation as to why it needed replacement?

No, they just told me that is what the code is reading. My wife was driving home, and the brake light came on as well as the "Safely Stop and do not Drive" signal. Also, the car would only go at low speeds. Fortunately, my wife was turning down our street when this happened. The next morning, I drove the car around with no problems. But I decided to take it to the Hyundai Dealer just to get it checked out. It is listed as a "Recommended Service" on the itemized bill they gave us.

I didn't see any TSB's or Recalls on this item.

May have just been a glitch, but I'm hesitant say 'drive it anyway' if there are no active faults or issues. On the other hand, without a further explanation/diagnostics, I would be hesitant to shell out $3,500.

Is there another dealer or import shop in your area you would trust to look into the matter?
