1999 Acura TL Trans problem

The only way the tran can heat up the engine is when it is running at high rpms most of the time. Possible cause is the trans is stuck in low gears and not upshifting.

This would cause the transmission fluids to turn black.

If the engine is overheating, was anything done or test carried out?

I checked the Engine with the dealer last year. he mentioned the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced by checking the codes and the transmission is dying. he explained dying means it may stop working anytime.

checked with another shop a friend's friend, he replaced the transmission oil and a pump between tranmission and engine. he said the oil replacement should resolve the issue, nothing with the transmission.

Checked with a transmission shop if the transmission has problem and needs replacement, he said the same thing as you, the 1999 honda models/same as acura have 2nd gear issue. he took a test drive, didn't open anything. he told me not to change oil even if it is black and stop-by if there is anything else later.

Any suggestions ?
