Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Acura TL Front Wheel Drive Automatic 210000 miles

I have a major problem and no transportation. My car I posted a question on the compression. My sister was driving car. It got hot and ran hot for a little whi;e. It died on here leaving her stranded. I went to look at it and try to start and it would not start just turn over pretty fast. I originally thought timing belt. I took to mechanic shop and they took it apart to put timing belt on and thit was supposively fine. He said he done a compression check on it and no compression. His OPINOIN was it melted the engine down. The engine will turn over and spin smoothly. Hard for me to believe the rings melted like he claims. I borrowed compression teter and done it on my own and no compression unless I am missing something. The distributor cap melted and seperated from the distrubutor itself about a inchj. The first thing that comes to my mind id timing. How logical is this. How do I test ityI have no transportaation and small child in a big hurry.

Read all posts and i know you don't want to accept the fact engine is toast but no compression has nothing to do with ignition timing. you can take distributor out and still be able to have compression. If it was hot enough to melt the cap it certianly got hot ehough to melt rings and warp/crack head. An aluminium engine cannot be run hot without damage. Shop was right just wished they would have done compression before putting belt on.

Hey man I appreciate the advice. I kinda worded it wrong when I said first thing that comes to mind is timing... I originally thought timing belt. Kinda like you sid not willing to accepted it. Plus I really just wanted to hear someone say it. Thx for your input Brandon

Yeah I found one pretty cheap my church paid for the engine. Just cant afford it right now to have it done. I have done some work on front wheel drives like civic and accord. I swap engiine on civic but this seems to be a little bit more complex than than plus medically im not stable enough to do it.

very tuff swap....good luck...make sure you get quote in writing mechanics are notorious for upping the price on tl swaps because if theyve never done one they are going to be confused by the setup...almost looks like and suv underneath.
