Car will stop if brakes slammed on, but if sitting in traffic and holding foot on the brake, the pedal will slowing sink to the floor and .ta-daa! NO BRAKES! Fluid level in master cylinder not particulary low, and ABS dash light stays on sometimes, and sometimes not. whar gives?

Hi there,

This is the classic symptom of a by passing master cylinder, under light pedal pressure fluid is leaking past the cup seal and the pedal sinks, with hard application the seal is pushed harder against the cylinder wall as the master pressure is higher and a better seal is made, i would replace the master cylinder.
