My car vibrates when accelerating between 40 and 60mph, and also, to a lesser extent when decellerating. Above and below these speeds there is no problem, in fact going along the mortorway (I'm based in the UK) at 80mph the car goes like a dream. There is no vibration through the steering wheel and I've had front wheels rebalanced 3 time to no effect. The vibration is significantlyworse when negotiaing a conrnerat 50mph. The vibration is not effected by enging revs, ie it is speed dependent and the same whether I'm in 2nd or 3rd gear.
I get conflicting advice from my Honda Garage (the Car's called a Honda Legend Mk 2 over here) - it could be something to do with the drive shafts or something inside the Gearbox.
To be honest I don't thing there are many Legends in the UK that will have done this many miles and I think the garage want to cover themselves in case the cheaper piece of work (replacing dirive shafts) doesn't solve the problem.
Is there anyone in the USA who has experience of older high mileage Acura RLs who can give me guidance?

The driveshafts are known sources of the vibration of which you speak and at 160k miles I would recommend replacement of them both to alleviate your condition mate. ♥
