2003 Acura MDX CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

I know this onboard computer is sophisticated and that it will detect most issues so is it normal if every 9 months a check engine light goes on and there is some new issue?

how many different items does the check engine light address? this current problem is smalll ,evaporator leak, but it is the second check engine light issue in 9 months.
