Recently my car started heating up. At first the inside gauge would just move up and down from normal to very close to hot. Then I noticed that it got worse and I heard a bubbling noise under the hood. What is happening is the overflow hose from the radiater to the overflow tank is blowing steam into the overflow tank and I am losing coolant. How or why is this happening?

The oil looks like it needs changing and it does but it still loks like oil. nothing unusual about. no debri or water in it. It was changed about 4K miles ago. The car has started smoking a bit and sometimes feels like its missing. Thanks for your quick response

Sounds like you have the beginings of a haedgasket leak. If smoke is at startup after sitting overnight accompanied by a miss indicate water in combustion chamber.

Can you explain how that happens and give advice on what I should do. I am no mechanic. Can you estimate cost of fixing such a problem? Any information would be greatly appreciated

Well if left unrepaired leak will progress to a point where short trips will overheat quickly and may warp or crack head. And coolant will fill crankcase and may destroy bearings.
Repair cost will range from $1750-$2500 depending on your area labor rate and any damage to head or valves.
