Engine has a rough Idle?

Sometimes it will start a rough idle.Up and down to where it almost dies.Then it clears itself up and is fine.A/c is not on at the time.New wires,plugs filters.We checked for vacuum leaks and cleaned the aic valve.
Only does this once in awhile.But it stops just as soon as it starts.Im thinking a sensor or elctrical part.

This could be caused by uneven compression due to minor leaks caused by valves. THis guide can help us fix it

I noticed the pcv valve was in two different parts.I replaced it and everything is fine now.Thanks.

a couple of yrs ago igot in an accident the front of my car was hit, it appeared to have only damaged my bumper, that got fixed and about a week after i got my car back i noticed the temp was high above norm only when i would come to a stop, i had to put in neutral or park so i can give it gas and only then would the temp gauge go back to norm. checked the coolant level it was empty, i thought problem was solved, a couple days after that while driving down the freeway check engine lights up along with the temp was all the way 'h' i got off the freeway right away & then my car was covered in smoke from under the hood, car was towed and found out the radiator was cracked, got it replaced and back to normal for about a week , then my car starts to be rough when idle and taking off which led to having a clicking noise under my car. my symptoms at this point are rough idle, constant low oil (with no oil leak !) and no power, i had to basically help my automatic shift gears and my car top speed was pushing 60 if that 50-60 mph max. ran diagnostics and came back with low threshold and 3 of my spark plugs were burnt. i was told i needed a catal...converter , so i did as well as changed the air filter, new spark plugs ,oil filter/change, new ignition coil, new wires, basically a tune up....i thought the nightmare was over, my car was running better than ever until a couple days later when i started my car my maint req light lit up and i noticed my car was rough at idle again, and my car has a rumble as if my muffler is loose or chugging. i ran diagnostics again and came back with no trouble codes, when we try to clear everything and reset the maint light it will light up within five minutes into driving can someone please help my ongoing nightmare oh and to add a little more to my disaster my car is late on registration(paid for) but the smog test is not done, because the technician said that regardless with the maint reqd light on its an automatic fail....and now my car feels like its lacking power again and the oil is constantly running low ( with no leaks) anyone please

your rough idle, is a bad egr valve. and shakes and vibrates, you need to have inspact on -front brake rotor, ball joint upper, wheel bearing front and tie rod end, these will make you car shakes and vibrates if they are going bad.

It's a very mild idle, just a noticeable vibration when idling, she drives smooth as can be though. I especially notice it on the shifter knob.

Timing belt and water pump have been changed recently.

Noticed a little bit of oil (not heavy at all, it seemed thick almost) on the threads of the sparkplugs on cylinder three and four. Car does not appear to be leaking any oil though. No check engine light either.

Car starts fine..fast idle while cold is ok. Car runs ok but when at the stop light with engine hot, idle becomes rough..car runs ok ...only rough idle at stop and engine hot..battery is new.WHAT SHOULD I CHECK? Thanks

I bought the car with no airbox, 02 sensor, or muffler. The exhaust smelled of unburned fuel and the idle was low rough and choppy, the ECU was showing codes1 and 43. I have put a new intake pipe and filter and put in an O2 sensor. The idle has gotten a little better and so has the performance, the code 1 is gone.

I still have a code 43, rough idle when the engine is cold. When the engine is warm it does one of these two things

1. surges to about 1700RPM then drops to about 1100RPM, repeat... etc

2. Idles high at about 1700RPM until a CEL comes on and drops dow to about 11-1200RPM and holds steady.

The car has also started dieseling when I shut off the engine.

:::EDIT::: Since this post I have taken apart, cleaned, and reinstalled the FITV and the surging has gotten just a little better... other syptoms still exist, crappy quality idle, etc.
