My front end makes a creaking noise when I go over speed bumps. Two mechanics independently expressed certainty that the problem was my struts. I replaced the struts and nothing changed, ruling out the struts as the problem (for a small fortune). What is the likely culprit...sway arm bushings? control arm bushings?

Hello,

Could be the sway bar bushings, could also be the upper and/or lower control arm bushings, or the strut fork bushing. With spray lube in hand spray one bushing and test drive or if you can hear it by pushing down on the front end do it that way will be faster. Continue until you don't hear the noise any more. replace bushing when found.

obxautomedic is correct on the process of elimination w/spray lube. It is common for Honda's & Acura's to develop noisy control arm bushings. If you have a "Stethoscope", sometimes that will help isolate the location also. If you do not have a "Stethoscpe", a longblade screwdriver can help you also. Put the "Tip" end on the part & the handle up to your ear. Please be CAREFULL when using a screwdriver in place of a stehoscope, you do not want to injur your ear ! If you don't find any of those parts to be bad, also ck. the "Ball Joints". Even if the boots are not ripped, they have been known to dry up or even may not have received the proper amount of grease from the factory. Good Luck !
