i have had this car since new, some minor mod's to list a few. headers,2.25" exhaust, high flow mufler,
underdrive crank pulley (aluminum),fuel pressure
adjustable regulator. Cold air intake and k & N air Filter. The engine and car have been
maintained by me to meticulous measures.
the problem is since i changed the exhast system to
a high flow system from original stock my fuel usage
has dropped from getting 36-40 MPG to 28 to30
Imperial gallons BTW. Also i am getting a code for
running too rich and the exhaust is black and pops
and misses are heard at idle. other than these no
problems exist it drives and runs great. i had it
dyno tested and am gettting a respectible 165HP
at the wheels.
The car doesn't use any oil between changes and all
the maintence items are in good shape and been
changed to try and fix this ongoing problem for about
one year. i have changed 1:spark plugs 2:wires 3:cap
4:rotor 5:distributer 6:coil 7:adjusted valves 8:VTEC
working 9:ECM 10:MAP sensor 11:Temp sensor 12:Main O2 sensor 13: CAT
none of the obove made any difference, car still runs rich. i am a fuel injection tech and have cleaned and flow tested the injectors with an ASNU machine in my shop too. the Fuel trim in the snap-on scan tool
is reading the fuel trim running at it's maximum -28%
at idle. one friend told (mechanic) it's gotta be the
exhaust and it's flowing too much air not enough
back pressure.
Any ideas?
