1996 Acura Integra brake light/horn/cruise control fuse

hi, i have a 1996 acura integra ls. ive had it for about 5 months and i was acting great intill my horn and cruise control went out, then i found out a few weeks later the brake lights went out.... so i did alittle research and found out all these are on the same fuse.. figured i would just go out and buy a few fuses, which i did and it worked.. i bough a box of 5, the first one worked for about 4 days. the second one worked for a day.... 3rd one lasted about a week. then today which is 8/13 my 3rd fuse didnt work anymore so i put in my 4th one which i later found out didnt work and then i put my 5th one in again it didnt work. the metal wire that runs across inside that u can c, on one side is all curled up while the other side is normal... so if u would be able to help me i would greatly appreachiate it. thx

Hi mattdoublet,

Seems the fuse is blowing due to a shorting somewhere.

Is the fuse rating according to the recommended specs?

Did the fuse blow immediately upon installation for the last 2 fuses? If not install the fuse and operate the brake lights to see if the fuse blows.

If not, try the horn. If any component causes the fuse to blow, that is the one you need to check.

hi, thank u for replying so fast. and yes it is the right amount of amps. 20 is the amount it is and thats what ive been buying. um the last 2 i just put in and tried alittle bit later once i was driving and they didnt work. the question is where would i be able to find the shortage,i work on cars myself but im not to good when it comes to electrical. but i dont wana pay 95 dollors just to have them look at it and then pay for whatever needs to be done. i'd rather do it myself. thx

Lets start with the horn.

Install the fuse and check if the horn works without breaking the fuse.

Next try the brake lights. Remove the brake light bulbs and test if the fuse blows when brake pedal is depressed.

Cruise control is not likely to be the cause if you do not operate it.

hi again, well today in my travels i did some messing around with the car. i disconnected the horn and went for a drive and within 5 min it didnt work, so it isnt the horn. i didnt get the chance to do it with the brake lights but i did remove them and find corrousin around the bulbs idk weather that may be a factor or not. funny thing is i drove about 25 min back to my house with a new fuse in my car and everything worked. i guess ill find out tomorrow if it works or not anymore..

If there are any corrosion around the bulbs, I would suspect them to be the cause. Get the sockets and couplers cleaned and ensure the bulbs wires are not crossed or exposed resulting in shorting.

ok so just clean the sockets an what not, would it be best to buy new bulbs?

The bukbs might not be the main cause, the wires would be more likely. If the bulbs do look bad, it is good to have them replaced.
