1993 Acura Integra battery

i have a 93 integra gsr...i try to change the start but i was given the worng starter..so i put my old one back on... i hook everything back. i try puting the battery on but it spark up very big and it melted the battery thermal a little bit, it does it eveytime when i try puting it on, so pleases help asap!!!
