1992 Acura Integra thermostat

i bought a thermostat for my acura intagra 1992 at canadian tire and they gave me a thermostat that opens at 82'c but when i took out the original one from the car it is only 78'c could that cause my car to run 2 hot and damage my head gasket??

I really don't think so. So people like to have the high temp as it creates for heat in the cabin when calling for heat. The difference is not that great. The engine should not be damaged. Once it is in and car gets to normal operating temp, note the position of the temp guage. It will likely be a bit higher than before. What I tell people is to watch and learn what is normal. Then as you watch, note changes and react accordingly. If it starts to rise you want to know why and stop the engine prior to any damage.

I am not sure what is causing you to replace it and by that I mean did you recently have an overheating issue with the old thermostat. You have to remember that in that case damage could already be done. The higher temp thermostat should not be a big issue.
