my car stalled on me while i was driving down the highway one day. it was back firing and pulling and then slowing down as if it wanted to drive but it couldn't,then it finally came to a stop. my mechanic says that he thinks that i might have blown a head gasket but my car wasn't over heating. i think i might have to change my gas filter due to the fact the car has so many miles on it, i had just gotten gas before i got on the highway and i haven't changed the filter since i got the car. can you please help me, changing a gasket is very expensive. thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Your mechanic is not very competent if he cant diagnose a head gasket problem, i would get the filter changed and also get a tune done i would also draw a sample of fuel to check for contaminants.

Hi pinck7210,

Was there any major coolant losses before? Is coolant losing out fast?

Get a pressure and compression test done to see if there are any leakages.

Did you check the spark plugs, cables , fuel pressure?
A fuel filter change is long overdue.
