1997 Acura CL Testing the EGR Valve?

Hi. I have removed and cleaned the egr valve from my 97 Acura CL 3.0. It seems pretty clean, and the exit valve seems to move out and in freely, with moderate spring tension, but no binding. Is there any further way to test this valve? Perhaps blowing or pumping air into the intake port on the valve, and see if it opens the exit valve? Would this tell me that it's functioning fine?

Secondly - Once I reinstall it, can I just disconnect the battery cable for a few seconds to reset the Check Engine Light, or will that not work?

Hi Jason.

When vacumn is applied, the valve should move and vacumn should hold.

The CEL would reset by disconnecting the battery but the code would return if the fault is not rectified.

What is the trouble code you are getting?

Actually the EGR on this model is electronic, and not vacuum activated, so it can't be tested with a vac pump. What I did discover however, is that it can be tested by applying an electric wire from the positive battery terminal to the number 4 connector terminal on the EGR valve, and another from the neg. battery terminal to the number 6 connector terminal on the EGR.
You probably already knew that, but just thought I'd share. :)

Oh, and the trouble code was P0401, and it turned out to be a clogged EGR port in the manifold. cleaned it all out today and all seems to be good at this point.
