My alarm has started going off intermittently with no reason. Once we turn it off with the keyfob, it starts again in about 5 minutes. This continues for about half and hour. Then stops for as much as 10 hours before starting again. I imagine this has happened to others and wonder if there is a posting explaining what to do.

Hi kmercier,

Check the hood and doors alignment. If any are out of adjustment, the door or hood switch are not cloasing tightly and any vibrations can cause the switches to be activated.

Do you have the door ajar light flashing intermittently while driving?

Thanks for responding so quickly. There was no door ajar light flashing. I have checked all the doors as well as the hood and trunk, nothing is out of line. The car has been sitting since last night. The alarm did not sound last night but it has come on 3 times today, no rhyme or apparent reason. Would the alarm sound in the key fob battery is running down, the way a battery operated smoke detector does? I've had the car for 10 years and have never changed the battery. Or, do you think disconnecting the car battery might fix this problem?

Thanks again, Kathy

Hi Kathy,

You're welcomed.

No, if the fob battery is bad, you would not be able to activate the alarm system with it.

As you do not have any problem with the door ajar indicator I believe the prolem is most likely to be the hood switch. It is not linked to the door ajar warning indicator and if the hood is not oit of alignment, the swith itself could be.

Check if the switch rubber boot is bad or dislodged or the switch has too much clearance. Try disconnecting the switch and retest.
