The car starts and the engine tach now reads 2400 to 3000 rpms. The cold engine was set to 1600 RPM and drops to 1200 rpm when warm. High RPM is causing engine to overheat. It will accelerate to 25-30 miles an hour without touching the gas peddle when in gear. The previous mechanic changed vacuum hoses, computer module, did a tune up and it seemed to go away for a bit but it is back after only 3 months and less than 2,000 miles. I was wondering about the throttle mechanism. Can something get "stuck" there and cause this high RPM?
