Hello, this isn't a vehicle specific question, it's about A/C systems in general.
1. When it comes to doing a simple recharge of the system, should you not pull vacuum on the system prior to adding refrigerant to make sure that no air or water is in the system? And, when doing that, should you not use a recovery machine to ensure that you aren't expelling refrigerant into the atmosphere?
2. If a system needs refrigerant added, would that not mean that there is definitely a small leak somewhere? Is there ever a situation where it is actually proper to just add refrigerant without fully evacuating the system with a recovery machine and replacing whatever seals caused the refrigerant to run low?
I keep seeing all these videos where guys are pulling vacuum on a system before they recharge it, but doesn't that just expel any remaining refrigerant into the atmosphere? I've watched so many videos and done so much reading, and, whenever someone talks about pulling vacuum, they never mention that they've already recovered the refrigerant into a recovery bottle. Should I just assume that they've already recovered the refrigerant? But it that's the case, then why are they only usine refill bottle s and not also reintroducing the refrigerant that they recovered into their recovery bottle?
Thanks so much!
