I just bought this vehicle. Heater is working but AC is not working and I checked for the gas inside the lines with my flat head on the low side but no gas was in the lines. Should I fill AC gas or should look for the leak and after repair fill the gas?
And if I should go for leak checks first. How should I do that? I do not have any tools.

If there is no Freon in the system then the system will not come on line.

You will need to fill the system with Freon and test for leaks.

What is a "flat head"? Is that a tool?
Anyhow, when you get enough R134A into the low side that the compressor runs, unless you have a leak detector, you may be able to find any huge leaks using a soapy water mixture and using an acid brush or similar and soap up each connection. This might be an expensive approach using so much R134A so you might even want to consider just going ahead and getting an o-ring kit and replacing all the o-rings to begin with, then charge the system and hopefully then there is no leak so you will not waste any R143A.
