Hi. The auto store said I needed to replace the compressor because it was noisy, AC still worked that time.
After I replaced the compressor I am having problems charging the system with Freon. The system will only take a small amount of Freon, the compressor kicks in but there is no sign of cold air.
I vacuumed the system and it seems to hold pressure.
Also, I noticed the fan does not run when I am trying to add Freon.
Please help.

Good morning.

How long did you evacuate the system?

Did you replace the receiver/dryer? That must be done.

How much did you install? Can you tell me the pressure you have on the high and low side?

I did not change anything but the compressor. I vacuumed the system for at least thirty minutes. Also, I noticed when I charged the system the hot side reading is within range, but the cold side reading is very high.

Okay.

What are the exact pressures?

The hot line was around 150, the cold side seemed very high 140 or so.

Okay, is the compressor engaged? The pressures are the same.

If the compressor is engaged, the compressor is no good.

If the compressor is not engaged. Then you have an electrical issue to the compressor clutch.

The compressor does engage. Fan does not. Thank you.

Okay. If the compressor clutch is engaged then you have a bad compressor. The pressures being equal is the key to the diagnostic.
