So a little history on the explorer; the engine was re-manufactured 10,000 miles ago and a new transmission was built and installed 1,000 miles ago. I didn’t rebuild the transmission, and new one was built and put in. So when I turn on max air I can look under the hood and see the compressor clutch click on and run for a second then kick off. That usually means it’s out of Freon. I tried to charge the system and couldn’t get a pressure reading at all, and to my surprise, Freon is already in it. What’s going on here?

Hello,

This could be a few problems here like the A/C compressor relay going bad, bad connections and wires, climate control system, or a few other things. I have included a link for you to go to:

Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you find out please.

Thanks,

Did a little digging and I suspect it might be the pressure cycling switch since the compressor is kicking on and off so fast.

It was some from column A and some from column B. It was the pressure cycling switch, however it wasn’t malfunctioning. It was just super low on Freon because of an un-diagnosed teeny leak. I thought my gauge was broken when it showed no pressure, and assumed the system was charged. It wasn’t. Since the pressure was so low the compressor wouldn’t stay on long enough to load from the low pressure side.
