I recently had A/C replaced including the evaporator, now I have no heat. The mode door works as I get air out at the defrost, front and lower vents. The blend door actuator works. I removed it and it turns as I move the temperature knob up and down. I can reinsert the actuator into the blend door without the screws and the whole actuator turns but the door stays closed. Putting the screws back in the actuator, blend door does not move. Could the blend door become jammed somehow when the dash was removed to redo the A/C?

Yep, that is exactly what happens, the blend door must move freely. I would take it back and tell the repair shop they have a problem. Here are the images for the unit so you can get an idea of the repair. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Thank you, gentlemen! Having worked at the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI as a technical illustrator for 13 years, creating the exploded views of what you see in todays "Repair Manuals," I knew exactly where the "Blend Door" was, and to be told by the people at Ice Cold Air that the problem was there before I brought it in, did not set with me. I removed the Blend Door actuator, that worked perfectly fine, so I knew the blend door was "stuck" after the dash was installed after the AC evaporator was installed. I ended up getting my full "labor" charge back and an apology for the bad work. From the photos you'll see how the screws were not aligned for reinstall, where the blend door was stuck and rubbing. Just a bad job overall but because of my background, luckily, refunded!

Yep, that will do it, it looks like the housing was not aligned correctly causing the malfunction. Good find, some mechanics need to slow down to do the job correctly or they make more problems. I also want to say a big Thank You to 2CarPros.com, you helped reassure me and back me in what I thought and knew to be the real problem. Also want to add, the owner of this Ice Cold Air was very apologetic and never hesitated to refund the labor charge, although he was not the one who did the work, I have no reservations going back for future AC work - only as long as he will be the one working on my vehicle. Thanks again!
