ABS light never goes off

ABS light never goes off in dash cluster.A mechanic friend said the module is bad ,and does not kick on any more. If I can locate a "used unit in good working order" can this pump be replaced to get the ABS system to work as it should?As well as get that hideous light on the dash to go off. Thanks for your reply.
