ABS Control Unit

take it back to see what the problem is the light should come on when you start as well as not key on engine off.

I went back to the mechanic and told him the manual says the traction control light should come on when you start the car and it will immediately go out. He said the car is fine. He programmed the module and told me the light will only come on when there is a problem with the ABS system or the traction control system.

What do I do? What would you do? It is difficult when you are not knowledgeable about cars. What he is telling me is not what the manual says. Could he be correct?

Doubtful. The light coming on tells you the light works and the system self check is running.

I am really concerned and need your advice because $1,255.00 is huge to me because I live on a disability check and this went on a credit card and will take me many months to pay off.

Did some digging. On my invoice there is a part number 9382835 and I went on GMPartsGiant.com and found this is for a 2000 Deville and says this part does not fit my 2002 Deville. Could that be the problem? From what I see, the correct part should have been 12226956. Am I correct?

How should I approach this with the mechanic? You are right. The manual says the light on and then quickly off shows the system is working. I would hate to have to charge back on my credit card. I have never done that to anyone in my life, but this is a lot of money and I feel it should work properly. How should I approach this? Help! Thank you so much!

i'm looking at a DTS for model as you didn't put that in and it shows a 55 last two for control unit. it shos the same number for a base and dhs models. but it also shows the 56 number for all models with active brake control so you need to know what you have.

You've lost me....sorry. I have a 2002 Deville Base Model. When you are talking about the last two are you referring to my VIN? If so, it's 85. If not, let me know what you mean and I'll get back to you. I hope you know you guys are a huge help to poor stupid guys like me that have no knowledge of cars. Thanks.

I guess the big question is can part 9382835, which I is the Elect Brake Control Module for the 2000 Deville, be used as a replacement for part 12226956, the same part for the 2002 Deville Base Model that I own? Is this part pretty standard for Base model Deville's? Is it most likely that GM assigns a different part number for each year model and there is no difference in the part? I think this is the question I need to answer before I go back and accuse my mechanic of putting in the wrong part. Can you help? I don't know where to go next with this! Thanks for your help.

there are two different ones, one for active and non active brake systems so you need to know which you have active or non active if the wrong one was put in that may be your problem have the mechanic that put it in go over things again he may have not programmed something into the control module.

And verify he has the correct part number installed.
