You are correct. The most likely cause is the Freon is low but we can confirm this by putting a gauge set on the system and find out the high and low pressure.

However, you can still add Freon even if the compressor short cycles. You need to get one of the pressurized cans from a parts store and follow the guide below.

Once the compressor senses the Freon is approaching the proper level, it will stop short cycling and you can continue to fill it to the proper pressure.

I have a can of AC Pro. With the compressor off it reds in the red. I've pulled the remaining Freon out and tried to start over but no luck. I do not know what I am doing wrong.

Okay. When you say you pulled it out, you did this with a vacuum pump for AC systems? If so, does it hold a vacuum? If so, are you trying to fill the system with the engine on and AC on? You should be able to fill a small amount then the compressor will kick on then it will assist with pulling the rest in.

I think the AC Pro cans have a release pin. Sometimes they break and don't let Freon out. Can you tell if any Freon is able to come out of the can?
