Would like to add refrigerant, but compressor does not run. Engine at operating temperature, blower fan works on all four positions. Checked fuse and relay's.

Maybe it is low on refrigerant.

The low pressure switch has the circuit open. (thus the compressor will not kick in, until there ismore pressure in the system)

Some (and me too) will take the connector off of the low pressure switch and "cheat it" for a few seconds with a paperclip to see if the compressor turns to see if the L P switch is the reason.

A set of gauges might confirm this and are preferred to take on an A/C task. You really do not want to overfill it, if your problem is different and not low pressure.

There is the let's go for it people without using the gauges.

On the Neon I had, Over the winter it would leak down until the low pressure switch 'took it out' (this was pretty much a given and same experience every spring). As soon as I began to fill it, the pressure rose up, the compressor would come on. Voila, I could get it filled close using the "A/C Pro" gauge and their instructions on the can (their product is on YouTube too).

Scroll down to "climate control" and check out the first four A/C related articles.

Return with good news!
