I've noticed a sound that my car makes for about 1-2 seconds when i first start up the car and continues at random times when i drive my car. Best way to describe the sound is like the old school alarm clocks that would need to be windup. I gave my car an oil change and also fueled up on Premium Fuel and neither have resolved the issue. I have no light indicators on in my dashboard but the sound does concern me since it has just recently begun. The car runs normal and I have not noticed any difference in performance since the car has started to make the sound.
Prior to this issue I had a Check Engine light indicator in my dashboard turn on for a (Mass Air Flow Sensor) and I had bought a spray for it and cleaned it myself. The Check Engine light turned off as soon as I cleaned it myself. Then 3 days later I get this ringing sound, I wonder if this is somehow related to this new issue?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Can you tell approximately where the sound comes from? Does it seem to be under the hood? And if I understand, it happens at random times. Is that correct? Is there anything you can do to make it happen? Is it possible for you to record it so I can hear it.

Let me know.

It sounds like it’s coming from the engine or something by it, I don’t really know. I hear it coming from the front right side. It makes the sound when I first turn the car on once while I have it idling. Then it continues when I accelerate the car. It happens randomly I have no control of when it happens it just makes the sound. I hope the video I’m sending helps...

Welcome back:

I heard it. Check the heat shields on the exhaust system. I suspect one is loose. To test, take a rubber mallet and tap on the system to see if you can mirror the sound.

Let me know what you find.

Hey Joe, I appreciate the help so much. My car is fixed! You were 100% correct. The heat shield was broken from one of the sides it was bolted on. I had my cousin cut the end off The broken end of the heat shield. He then bolted the one Good end back on. I got to say I’m impressed you were able to figure it out from a short video of the sound it would make. I thank you and I will tell people about this website... thank you!

Welcome back:

You are very welcome. Honestly, I have heard so many of them making noise. I always put a large clamp around them to stop the noise. Why they can't design something to be a bit stronger is beyond me. LOL

You take care and stop back anytime.

Have a good weekend.
